So, I know that every pregnancy is different and I've been told that with each subsequent child you are likely to start showing sooner. Well I definitely fell into that category as I was in my maternity clothes this go round at 10 weeks, lol! Well it seems that within the past 2 weeks I have gotten HUGE!! I mean I was falling into that being larger due to the 2nd pregnancy thing already but EVERYONE was commenting on me being big. (By the way folks, you should really keep those comments to yourself!!
So anyway, Ryan and I go the midwife appt yesterday for our 22W visit and she of course asks me how I'm doing. Well I tell her that I just feel big. I mean this belly has grown crazy these last few weeks and I feel like its getting in the way already and Ive got 18 more weeks to go. She listens and then lays me back and measures my uterus. Now for those that don't know this is where the feel for the bottom of the uterus and the top and then take a tape measure to see how many cm it is. Now the general rule is that you should be measuring the number of weeks you are. So I should have been measuring 22cm, but what did I measure??....
25 Freakin WEEKS!!!!! 3 weeks then I am supposed to be. Now I knew I was alot larger than I looked but that really confirmed it. Now, we know that there is only 1 baby inside. We've had enough ultrasounds (4 now) that if it was twins they would have definitely seen them by now. My weight gain is on target, maybe a pound or 2 off course, so that definitely couldn't explain for how measuring big. Which left two other options....1)Gestational diabetes or 2) This is just a big baby. Option 2 is what I think as we're not even claiming number 1. Now the midwife bless her heart didn't really want to tell me what I was measuring because she isn't concerned about. She said that baby could have just had a growth spurt and that eventually it will even out. I'm not concerned either really but I have the type of personality that I've just got to know WHY?
So in 4 weeks at our next appt if I'm still measuring large then they'll do an ultrasound and we'll also go ahead and do the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes. So we'll see...but until then I guess I'll just have to deal with the looks of "You're kidding me!!" when I tell them I'm only 5.5 months :)
